As a mom of two, one in Pre-K and one in 1st grade, my days start early and move fast. From the moment my feet hit the floor, I’m on. Making breakfast, zipping jackets, tying shoes, and doing my best to send my little ones off to school with full bellies and big smiles. And then? I’m at my desk. Not at an office down the street, but at home, where the coffee is strong and the to-do list is even stronger.
Working from home while raising kids isn’t just a balancing act, it’s a superpower. One I’ve come to wear with pride (and sometimes a messy bun).
The moment I return home from drop-off, I’m switching gears from “Mom Mode” to “Work Mode”. There’s no commute buffer. No Starbuck’s or Dunkin run. Just a deep breath and knowing that I have a solid few hours to focus before it’s time to pivot back. That ability to shift mindsets on a dime? That’s a superpower.
With meetings, deadlines, errands, and school events, my calendar is always full. But here’s the thing: there’s power in that. It forces creativity, flexibility, and a deeper kind of presence. I don’t have time to waste, so I make the most of every moment. Whether it’s getting in a focused hour of work during a cartoon break or answering emails while sitting next to a play doh masterpiece in progress, efficiency is everything.
Being a WFH Parent teaches you what’s truly important. It’s not about doing everything perfectly, it’s about showing up. For your kids, for your team and for yourself. Some days the dishes pile up, and some days the Slack messages do. But every day, I’m doing my best to be present in the moments that count.
One unexpected gift of working from home? My kids get to see me in action. They don’t have to wonder what my workday looks like because they are kind of living it too. They see me on work calls and showing up professionally. They’re learning that their mom can build and contribute, even from the kitchen table.
We don’t need special capes or catchy theme songs! Our power lies in the quiet strength, the constant pivoting, and the fierce dedication that it takes to care for our families and show up for our team every day. The superpower isn’t about doing it all. It’s about doing what matters, with heart.
With summer approaching and kids soon to be home full-time, that power will stretch and evolve. While it may feel messy and overwhelming at times, it’s also where the magic lives- in the laughter between meetings, the creativity sparked by chaos, and the deep pride that comes from being fully present in both worlds.
To all the WFH Parents out there: You’re doing great. Your ability to adapt, connect, lead, and love all at the same time is your superpower. It’s not about perfection; it’s about the purpose and presence you bring to every part of your day.
